Mount Vernon in Paris

From September 19–22, Mount Vernon convened a group in Paris of one hundred scholars, practitioners, supporters, and friends to explore the long connection between the United States of America and the Republic of France.

Mount Vernon’s conference, The Republics of France and the United States: 240 Years of Friendship, was crafted in close collaboration with Université Paris 8 (Vincennes Saint-Denis). It represents a key element of the Washington Library’s ongoing efforts to facilitate new and impactful research and further its growing national and international reputation as a center for advanced study and historical inquiry.

The conference took place in storied locations that have direct connections to George Washington, the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, and historic preservation to pay tribute to the theme of the conference in triumphal fashion.
